Religion & World Views

At Collingwood Primary School Religion & World Views Education contributes dynamically to children and young people’s education by provoking challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. We learn about and understand a range of religions and world views so we can express ideas and develop insight about the nature and significance of different religions and their impact.

Implement

Our Religious Education curriculum is set out in our long term plan and exposes children from our EYFS through to year 6 to the three main religions within the community (Christianity, Islam, Judaism). Children are also exposed to the ideas around Humanism.

Christianity and Islam is taught across all year groups developing children’s learning in a progressive way which is set out across our medium term plans.

At Collingwood, we also believe in the importance in exposing our children to a wide range of religious and non-religious (including humanist) festivals and celebrations. Some of these include: Lent, Passover, Eid-ul-Fitr and Remembrance Sunday.

Impact

Our children will be able to talk about the wide range of religions and cultures which they have learnt about and will be able to talk about how they are similar and different to their own thoughts, ideas and beliefs.

Using an enquiry-based model, our children’s critical thinking skills will be developed, their motivation to learn increased and their knowledge and understanding of, and empathy with people and their beliefs, religions or otherwise, will be enhanced. Our children will be able to talk freely and confidently about their own choices and decisions concerning religion and belief.
