EYFS
Early Years Foundation Stage
Intent
At Collingwood primary school we believe that all children deserve an education that allows their curiosity and creativity to grow. Through a language rich, caring and stimulating environment, pupils build upon prior learning to develop confidence in their ability to learn. Our curriculum is bespoke to provide a secure foundation for a smooth transition in to Key Stage 1 and life long learning, where pupils are given opportunities to enhance and embed their learning.
Implementation
We provide our children with an immersive learning environment that widens their experiences with learning taking place inside and outside the classroom. Children have opportunities to visit places relating to different subject areas. Through well planned and thoughtfully resourced spaces, we provide all children with freedom and opportunities to develop high quality communication and language skills by incorporating their interests into everyday learning challenges.
Each half term, our new topic is launched through a series of immersive ‘hooks’ which aim to engage and excite the children, sparking their curiosity for what is to come.
Throughout EYFS, our children are assessed in order to carefully plan for next steps in their learning journey. Judgements are made based on accumulative observations and in-depth knowledge of the children acquired through ongoing assessments. Next steps are taught in the moment during continuous provision and adult led activities to ensure children are challenged.
Impact
The children at Collingwood Primary School are actively engaged in their learning and the enjoyment of this learning is apparent in their daily provision. Our children are happy, confident and inquisitive. Children are encouraged to actively ask questions about the world around them and their learning experiences. Our children are successful learners and ready for the challenges of the next step in their education.
